In this scene, a young giraffe reaches its long, spotted neck up to nibble leaves from a branch of a big leafy tree. It stands on four slender legs with its tail swishing behind, and its ears and two little horns are easy to find. Above, a smiling sun with rays shines over three puffy clouds, and rounded bushes line a grassy hill in the distance. Small grass tufts dot the foreground. The giraffe's big rounded spots leave plenty of room for little hands, so preschoolers and early elementary kids should do well with it. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the sun in bright yellow and the three large clouds in sky blue, leaving the background white.
- 2Fill the tree canopy and leaves with leaf green, then color the bushes and grass in forest green.
- 3Color the giraffe's head in pale yellow and the rest of its body and legs in golden yellow, leaving the mane and tail tuft white.
- 4Fill the giraffe's spots with caramel brown, then color the horn knob and hooves in dark brown and the tail tip in chocolate brown.
- 5Use warm orange and dark amber on the leg patches and tail for a little variety, and color the inside of the ear coral pink.
- 6Optional: Add light shading with a slightly darker yellow along the giraffe's belly and legs to make it look rounder.
