A wide-eyed baby owl perches on a leafy tree branch, gripping it with both feet, while a crescent moon and five little stars glow in the night sky behind it. Its big round eyes have shiny highlights, and it has a tiny smiling beak, tufted ear feathers, and scalloped feather patterns across its belly. The wings rest at its sides, each made of layered feather sections you can color one at a time. A few large leaves at the right end of the branch leave extra room to fill in. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the owl's face and head using cream for the big round face and the feathery head tufts, leaving the two big eye whites and the eye shine spots uncolored.
- 2Fill the wings, the upper part of the belly feathers, and the wing tips in warm brown and light tan, following the feather lines.
- 3Color the branch, the tail feathers hanging below it, and the wing bases in warm brown, then add the three leaves on the right in leaf green.
- 4Use golden yellow for the owl's little feet and toes gripping the branch, and amber for the top of the beak with orange for its tip.
- 5Color the stars and the moon's glow with golden yellow, leaving the moon's outline as the paper shows it.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the wing tips and leaf edges for extra depth, and keep the eye shine spots white so the eyes look bright.
